Emma is a chemist and an ultra-marathon runner. In her first outing, Running From the Devil, Emma is on a plane heading to Columbia when it is hijacked and brought down in the jungle, killing many passengers, but leaving many of them alive. They are taken hostage by a paramilitary group and made to march through the jungle. The devil is the leader of this group who kills and maims without conscience. Emma uses her knowledge of plants and chemicals to stay alive and her fantastic physical endurance to help save the day. A really exciting novel and only the first of those featuring Emma.
