Every contact leaves a trace, a novel by Elanor Dymott, is a murder mystery that is also a beautiful love story. The author follows Alex, at the start of the story, an English lawyer whose wife was murdered. As he slowly unravels the past, through the words of his wife’s former tutor, he learns of activities that his wife and her two close friends engaged in during their time at Oxford. Even though he was also a student there, and knew them all, he had no idea of the jealousy, spite and blackmail that was the impetus for two of the friends to leave Oxford, while Rachel, eventually his wife, continued on. Alex finally comes to understand who was there the night Rachel was murdered, and the part lost love and lost hopes played in Rachel’s murder.
