  1. Twenty-eight years ago, a young pregnant wife was kidnapped. Now her remains have been found and a man charged with her murder. .

CeeCee was a lonely, vulnerable sixteen-year-old who was taken advantage of by a 22 year-old college student, Timothy Gleason. Tim and his brother had a plan to kidnap the governor’s wife. CeeCee loved Tim and believed the story he told about her about his incarcerated sister. She grudgingly ageed to help Tim. After things went horribly wrong, CeeCee left NC and started a new life in VA. There she met her future husband, Jack, who was a great husband and a loving father.

CeeCee’s Wilkes a.k.a. Eve Elliot lived a lie to protect her family. She made a terrible mistake as a teenager, yet that mistake gave her a beloved daughter in Corrine.

Now as the past explodes into the present, Corrine must confront the secrets, and find answers from the one person who knows the truth of what happened – CeeCee Wilkes.

The book club members found this book engaging and suspenseful. It was an excellent summer read. (June Anderson)
